EPC-2 DRAMA AND ART IN EDUCATION REPORT 2023-2025 BATCH
To enhance professional capacity the B.Ed curriculum is equipped with EPC courses. These are practical courses that equip prospective teachers with several skills to enhance their professionalism. B.Ed. course under Calicut University has 4 EPC courses. And EPC-2 deals with Drama and Art in Education. This is a course offered in the fourth semester. At MJTC we organized workshops related to Drama and Art in Education in several intervals. So this happened in the first semester, the second semester, and concluded in the third semester.
Learning through art and drama helps both learners and teachers. Teachers enrich themselves with creative skills while learners think creatively. The EPC-2 Drama and Art in Education was organized as a five-day workshop. Each day had something interesting for students to learn.
For 2023-2025 batch students, the first two-day workshop was organized on the 12th and 13th of Sep 2024. Sri. Subin A. A. presently serving as the Headmaster at NMALP School, K Puram, Tanalur, in the Malappuram district was the resource person. He is an eminent puppeteer, sculptor, and painter. He has been conducting workshops on puppetry for two decades now. He taught students to make finger puppets, soak puppets, puppets from scratch, dragon puppets, etc. He also made them do collage and mask drama. Students performed puppetry and mask drama with great spirit and enthusiasm.
Next workshop was organized on 21st Feb 2024. Name of the workshop was Art Integrated Education. Mr. Aji Narayanan K.K, hailing from Chelakkara, a dedicated research scholar at NSS Training College Ottappalam, specializing in Art integrated education handled the workshop. He introduced the theoretical aspects of Art and Drama in Education. He made students perform a skit on the insights gained from the theory.
The last two-day workshop was organized on 6th and 7th June 2024. This was a Theatre Education Workshop. Fijo Joseph, also known as Fr. Fijo Alappadan, Assistant Professor in Performing Arts at Navajyothi College of Teacher Education for Women, Olarikkara, and St. Joseph Teachers Training Institute, Kuriachira, was the resource person. This focussed on providing a vibrant environment for the students to explore and develop their skills in drama, story making, script writing. Etc. A unique aspect of the workshop is the inclusion of chathurvida abhinayam. A traditional Indian acting technique that encompasses Angika (body movements), vaachika (vaachika), aharya (costume and speech) and (mental state) on the first day. The second day included theatre games, plot setting, role play, drama etc.
The five day workshop organized for EPC-2 was an engaging and enriching experience.
